Mayor Michael Miraglia of Pahrump, Nevada decided he didn’t like people (namely Mexicans) flying the flag of another country in his town. Therefore he made it stop. And here’s why according to the story:
Pahrump resident Michael Miraglia proposed the ban because, he said, he got upset when he saw immigrant activists marching through U.S. cities last spring, waving Mexican flags. Mr. Miraglia told USA Today that he was especially miffed that “we had Mexican restaurants closed that day.”
This is where we’re headed if we don’t stand up to the ilk of those that supported the Morristown ProAmerica rally. It starts with a denial of being racist while targeting one particular group and it quickly turns into something like this – being unable to fly another country’s flag in the United States.
These ultra-conservatives scare citizens into thinking this activity elicits anti-American sentiment and that our country is under attack. It’s as if we’re not smart enough to take pride in our country of origin while pledging allegiance to the United States. What about all the parades for different nationalities? Will they be next?
It sounds like extremism to me.
