Leave it to these anti-immigrants to forget those Iraqis, soldiers from other coalition members, reporters, and contractors who’ve been killed in this war. According to VDare.com:
February 22, 2007 SE — Illegal aliens are killing more Americans than the Iraq war, says a new report from Family Security Matters that estimates some 2,158 murders are committed every year by illegal aliens in the U.S. The group says that number is more than 15 percent of all the murders reported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the U.S. and about three times the representation of illegal aliens in the general population.
Even minimal estimates of the casualties of the Iraq war are around 80,000. This includes all deaths as people from other countries do count as well.
And since the 2006 murder count, in the United States, was 17,034 that means that legal citizens commit 14,876 murders per year. At this rate we can probably state that legal US citizens murder more people per year than have died in Iraq. So basically you should be more afraid of a legal US citizen as you’re more likely to be killed by a legal citizen even though the percentage of chance, per person, is actually lower.
I’ve been inspired by Roy Beck – Doing the math on legal versus illegal US residents and the crimes committed by each group – If we had 100 lottery tickets in one stack and 8 lottery tickets in another you’re more likely to find a winner in the stack of 100 due to the higher number even though the stack of 8 contains tickets with higher probabilities of being winners. (Plus the stack of 8 represents illegal immigrants and scratching those tickets would be against the law – you know illegal immigration is illegal!) Since about 99% of every person I encounter daily is here legally I’m going to start being a little more afraid of them. But, to be fair, if you work with illegal immigrants I’d advise getting another job as soon as possible. Be thankful you’re still alive!
Another fun fact is that illegal immigrants are actually not much more likely to break the law than legal citizens. This is true even if we sting them right up front for being here illegally. This is due to the fact that many Americans speed on the highways, talk on cell phones while driving (for those states where it’s against the law), download software and programs illegally, throw cigarette butts on the ground or out their car windows, and whatever other minor infraction you want to throw in.
