As crops rot on the vine anti-immigrants and those that believe there are people, other than migrant workers, willing to perform this type of work are fighting to keep all migrant workers out of the country. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think losing our ability to grow our own food is in our best interest. If there are other issues with farming causing us to require migrant and seasonal workers then I’d like to know, but right now we either harvest these crops or lose them.
Romney: More Visas For Seasonal Workers
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich., Oct. 13, 2007
(AP) Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said Saturday he favored more seasonal visas to foreign workers in industries such as agriculture and tourism.
Campaigning in northern Michigan, where many employers have struggled to fill jobs in hotels and restaurants during the summer tourist rush, Romney said more temporary workers should be allowed where there are labor shortages.
“The answer to that is simple, which is issue more visas,” Romney told reporters. “If our employment sector needs additional immigrant laborers, then issue the visas necessary to provide that work force.”
