I’m not sure when building and running a prison became a good business venture, but the whole idea is disturbing. If a business is sustained by continued business then they will constantly be in need of prisoners. Isn’t the idea of a prison to deter criminals from breaking the law? Aren’t we supposed to be working to keep people from ever needing to go in?
In regard to immigrant detention I don’t see where a business should have anything to do with this. The idea of profiting off of the capture and detention of migrant workers is sickening at best.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – A private prison operator has proposed building an immigrant detention center in rural Caldwell County, Texas.
County commissioners plan to vote on the proposal by Louisiana-based Emerald Correctional Management LLC after holding public hearings. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which oversees detention of immigrants, did not comment on specific plans.
Emerald’s proposal calls for a $30 million, 1,000-bed facility to built about 30 miles southeast of Austin. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Mike Moore says the facility would house men and women separately.
