Here we can get a feel for the stereotyping that this blog attempts to fight against. Workers are and will be refused work or fired simply for being Hispanic because if you’re Hispanic you’re more likely to be labeled an undocumented immigrant. Fresh Direct claims there decision was not based on race, but the fact that all those on suspension, and the one person fired, were Hispanic, it’s definitely suspect.

Updated, 10 p.m. | FreshDirect, the online grocery delivery service that has seen rapid growth in its New York City business since it began deliveries in 2002, this week suspended several dozen workers — nearly all of them Hispanic immigrants — and fired at least one of them, saying that the workers had not provided accurate Social Security and other records to document their legal status.
Local 805 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which over the summer began an effort to organize a union among the 900 workers at the FreshDirect’s warehouse in Long Island City, Queens, asserts that the suspensions are an effort to foil a unionization election scheduled for Dec. 22 and 23.
