TANEYTOWN, Md. — Taneytown Mayor Jim McCarron tallied the votes, and amid a cloud of controversy announced that a measure declaring the city is not a “sanctuary city” did not pass .
Republican Councilman Paul Chamberlain Jr. pushed for the non-binding resolution, saying that illegal immigrants were not welcome, as well as another measure passed 14 months ago declaring English the official language.
